Ama Dablam & Lower Solu Khumbu Trek

Trip Overview

A personalised trip introducing you to diverse cultures of these regions including Sherpa, Tamang and Rai people. We experience flora and fauna in rich forests, passing through villages with ancient monasteries, into low alpine terrain, topped off with breathtaking mountain views. This is a less travelled trekking route, quieter and camping is the best way to go!

As we make our way up the Khumbu valley toward Phakding (2,600m), near the gateway to the Everest region and into the historical home of the Sherpa people, we start to slowly gain more altitude and the high peaks begin to come ever so close to us. Even before Namche Bazaar at 3,400m we have the chance to get our first glimpse of Mt Everest and other beautiful mighty peaks of this region – Lhotse, Nuptse, Taboche, Cholatse - with many more viewing opportunities of many snow capped peaks in the days ahead. Our high point for the trip is to trek up to Ama Dablam base camp at 4,600m and to see the base camp during its bustling climbing season, and see climbers ascending and descending, or resting in base camp and we can stop for a cup of tea and bikkies. Ama Dablam base camp is a favourite visiting place for trekkers as you feel as if you are enveloped in the arms of this beautiful mountain, known as the jewel of the Khumbu.

We have a night at Pangboche, after descending from Ama Dablam base camp, and we head down the valley via a different trail so that we can stop at the historic village of Phortse, famed for its potato crops and for being the location for training facilities for Nepalese mountain guides – this laid back village off the main trail is a real treat. Then, it is back to Namche Bazaar and down the valley to Lukla before we fly back to bubbly, effervescent, exotic Kathmandu.
