Mera Peak

A favourite starter peak!

Route: Kathmandu – Lukla – Zatrwa La – Khare - Mera Peak – return over Zatrwa La to Lukla - Kathmandu

Mera Peak is one of the most favoured Himalayan trekking peak for those wanting to dip their toes into their first Himalayan mountaineering experience, with a good dose of high altitude.

Our trip starts in Kathmandu, and after some time for sightseeing and preparation, we fly to Lukla, the beginning of our adventure. From Lukla, we immediately head off the beaten track and away from the busy Khumbu Valley by crossing the Zatrwa La and into the quiet Hinku Valley. We will have a pleasant few days trekking up the Hinku valley to Khare and then onward to until Mera Peak base camp, and Mera La.

Above Mera La, we place our high camp, from where we launch our summit push in the early morning hours. From the summit of Mera Peak (6,460m), you will be amazed at the stunning view. Everything to now proves to have been so worthwhile and you will count your lucky stars that you choose to do this trip for the views alone. Lying a little to the south of the main Himalayan range, you will be offered the full Himalayan panorama, from the Langtang region and Cho Oyu in the west, taking in Nuptse, Lhotse, Everest, Baruntse, and Makalu, and across to Kangchenjunga in the far east of Nepal bordering India.

After your summit, we will head back to Khare for a well earned rest, and a well earned post- climb meal. We will sleep overnight and then head down the Hinku valley again before ascending up and over Zatrwa La and down to Lukla. After that, it is back to the hustle, bustle, and verve of exotic Kathmandu.
