Expedition Base is pleased to offer the below wilderness first aid courses to its clients. The courses are conducted in and around Kathmandu, Nepal, and are run by our Kathmandu based partner.
Expedition Base offers first aid courses that are suitable for both professional outdoor instructors and individuals wanting to be able to look after their friends in the outdoors. These courses are comprehensive, effective, and equip you with the knowledge and tools to enjoy the outdoors fully and safely.
All of Expedition Base’s courses can be run on a residential (transport, food and accommodation provided) or non-residential (tea, coffee and snacks only) basis. They include internationally recognised certifications by SOLO School of Wilderness Medicine based in New Hampshire, USA and CPR certification by the American Heart Association.
All courses include a course manual, certification, professional instruction plus all the equipment necessary to participate in the life-like training scenarios. All courses can be combined with a trek or a climb, or a trek and ice climbing (season permitting) or included as part of a trip designed by Expedition Base especially for you. Many options are possible to suit your particular needs. Please contact Expedition Base for details and pricing.
By a special request, we can provide a customized first aid course to deal with the most likely issues arising from an earthquake situation.
The different topics that will be taught include CPR for adults and children, the Primary and Secondary Assessment Systems, shock, fractures & splinting, soft tissue injuries and bandaging, spine and head injuries, and burns. It is not necessary to attend all of the days if you have personal commitments, it will be possible to join in the future course subject to space being available. Please contact us to discuss your requirements.
This 5 day course is appropriate for group leaders, outdoor professionals and the outdoor enthusiast who may be away from immediate medical help for more than a day.
The Advanced Wilderness First Aid course builds on the 3 day WFA course going into greater depth on the basic first aid subjects, emphasizes leadership skills, and presents new skills such as building improvised litters and litter carrying. As the course is also quite short, you will gain the maximum benefit from it if you are already familiar with basic first aid concepts and practices. On previous courses, you will most likely have learned reactive first aid; on this advanced course you will learn to make proactive decisions among other skills.
