Lobuche East, Kala Patar or Everest Base Camp

Trip Overview

Route: Kathmandu – Lukla – Namche – Lobuche – Namche - return to Lukla - KTM

This trip will lead you through the Khumbu valley’s most popular and scenic areas, with incredible views from Kala Patar and Lobuche and the opportunity to see Everest Base Camp for yourself.

Your trip begins at the gateway to the Khumbu (Everest) region of Nepal in Lukla. We will trek up the Khumbu valley towards Mt Everest, passing through numerous Sherpa villages until we arrive at Dingboche. Our introductory climb will be on Pokhalde (5,806m), which is a rock ascent from Kongma La pass. At the top you will see spectacular views all around you. We will then drop down towards and cross the Khumbu glacier to reach Lobuche for our second, more challenging climb, of Lobuche East (6,119m). This climb will require 3 camps, one base camp at the foot of the mountain and 2 higher camps. Some try to attempt the summit with only 2 camps but we wonder, why the hurry? An extra day on the mountain enjoying the amazing views is one of the experiences you won’t want to rush.

Whilst at our base camp, we will practice rope skills and fixed line climbing. Our summit day will involve crossing the summit ridge, which offers an exhilarating sense of exposure and amazing views towards Mt Everest.

Why join with Expedition Base?

When it comes to mountaineering expeditions, for any peak, we are known for our sound strategy, strong leadership and well-resourced approach to our expeditions. The mountains are fun and full of wonderful experiences. But, we also recognise that they also carry with them risk. For that reason, we approach the mountains on the basis of ‘safety first’. With safety as our first focus, fun and amazing experiences will follow. Few companies offer logistics as good as ours for a reasonable price point. Our goal is to put our clients in the best position for success, whatever their personal goal in the mountains may be. Our guides are some of the best in the business, with experience on a wide range of peaks from small, right up to the 8,000m peaks, many with multiple summits on the 8,000m peaks. We see strong leadership as critical to success on the world’s highest peaks and we can offer that leadership here at Expedition Base – and not all companies can. We offer the level of services historically offered by leading western companies, but without costly western overheads. In the mountains, your safety is our prime importance. We know our clients value our commitment to them and with that flows a great experience.
